Boudoir Photography is getting more popular by the minute. More and more women out there are deciding to go on this adventure that seems intimidating at the beginning but also full of excitement and beauty.

Being a boudoir photographer has opened a path of discovery, self-esteem and has made me rethink the female body like never before.

It has allowed me to have deep conversations with many women about they fears, insecurities, but also about their processes of self-acceptance, overcoming obstacles (like desease and trauma) and finding their inner strength.

I want you to know that there’s a big “WHY” behind my boudoir photography. For me it has a deeper meaning beyond just beautiful photos, and to better explain what I mean by this I want to share with you Catalina’s experience.

Catalina is a great friend of mine. We studied together at the university and when she told me she wanted to explore boudoir photography herself, I felt honored and happy to be able to help her with that.

She told me she was starting a new stage in her life and she wanted to meet with that woman emerging to the surface.

Let’s see what she has to say about her own experience with Boudoir Photography.

 

“After responding to these questions, I think what helped me the most to make sense of the whole experience, was to answer in the most honest way possible. Allowing myself to see beyond the obvious, understand and accept myself just the way I am.”

Why did you decided to do a boudoir photography session for yourself? 

I’ve decided to do a boudoir photography session for myself because I wanted to look sensual and feminine. Show myself like the kind of woman I’m really am, without all the filters that normally prevent seeing my true self, my true image.

I also did it because in few years I want to look back at these beautiful photos and feel proud, not just of my physical body, but also what these images reflect: honesty and strength.

What were your worries or fears when planning your boudoir photography session?

My biggest worry before the session was not knowing if I would be able to pose in front of the camera naturally, because I haven’t been exactly very sexy or feminine in the past, at least not to the level that I would have liked to.

All those fears disappeared once we started the boudoir photoshoot, because I just went with the flow, I started to think what “Catalina is” in that very moment, without barriers, filters or judgments.

And now that I see the photos I just love the smile on my face that day, they light I had in my eyes, I feel like I shined in a different way; amazingly beautiful.

 

Do you feel your boudoir photography session help you overcome some of your fears? 

I don’t really know if I could say that the boudoir photoshoot helped me overcome my fears, but what I can say is that is definitely a first step in the path of self-acceptance. Also it has helped me understand that my path is different to everybody else’s and that I should mark it with my own rules and dreams.

Never the less, I must say that every time I see the photos, I’ll look at myself with more kindness, without seeking perfection on what I do or how I do it.

It also means that I had to face what I really am, without putting myself higher or lower than everybody else (which is what I normally do) because like everyone else I’m a person that believes, thinks and feels, and like them, I’m fighting my own battles every day.

Is there any experience from your past that you would have liked to overcome through your boudoir photography session?

Well, my main intention was to see myself with different eyes; ones that believe in me, in what I am and in the decisions I make. I think most of the problems of my past are related with the fact that I always wanted to please everybody around me, be the good girl everyone would feel proud of and not realizing that the main persona that has to feel proud of myself is me.

You mentioned there was a new “You” that you wanted to show on these pictures, what did you mean by that? 

In the moment I told you I wanted the pictures, many exciting things where happening in my life. Everything was falling into place, I’ve just got a new job (something I wanted for a while) and I was getting stronger at this hobby of mine, calligraphy, which is a great challenge for me.

All that started to give me faith in myself, I began to think I could do anything I wanted, as long as I put in the dedication along with the right attitude.

That’s why I wanted to document this new “reborn”. To change the way I was seeing myself, to get out the beast inside of me and be able to tame it. That way I would be able to get to places I could have never though possible before.

How did you feel during your boudoir photography session?

I felt extremely comfortable, like a diva, like the model everyone wants to photograph.

You made me feel proud of myself, and I was able to get rid of all my thoughts. I was fully present for every click of the camera.

 

What advice would you give to any woman who wants to have a boudoir photography session of themselves?

I think every woman should do a boudoir photography session of themselves. It’s a great opportunity to face ourselves and to realize we’re beautiful just the way we are.

It doesn’t matter what society thinks of us, we’re all different and those differences are the ones that make us unique and beautiful in this universe we inhabit.

My advice would be to leave all the judgment everyone else have of you, right at the door. Be present and enjoy what wonderful gift you’re giving to yourself. 

How was working with Gloria as your boudoir photographer?

Working with Gloria was extremely comforting. She’s a great friend of mine and I admire her for her talent and for showing me and everyone around what can be accomplished.

I also admire her because she’s totally feminine and she loves every inch of her body. She’s also very open minded and she understands that sensuality and sexuality is part of us as women, she carries those thoughts with pride within her soul.

To be honest, it was a little intimidating at the beginning because I haven’t been someone who’s explored her sensuality and femininity on the past. But as soon as we started, she made me feel so comfortable and relaxed that I had total confidence to do the boudoir session.
