My own boudoir photography experience in Paris
My own boudoir photography in Paris
Ok, I’m going to be completely honest here. I never thought about having my own boudoir photography experience until I became a boudoir photographer myself. I didn’t even know it was a thing.
As I dived into the photography world and I started to know all this different genres of this fabulous form of art I discovered boudoir photography and that was it. It was an epiphany for me and suddenly everything made a lot of sense.
This revelation made sense after 2 different beliefs I’ve had all my life combined in what boudoir photography is for me.
Boudoir photography and Feminism
I’ve always been very sensitive with gender equality, women’s rights and all causes related to women in general.
Being raised with a feminist mother and father, where the roles where not played by gender but more like a team where my mom and my dad both worked, earned money, cooked, cleaned, took care of the children, did house and construction work, etc. It’s no surprise that both my brother and I are equally capable of doing work traditionally designated for girls or boys but also sensitive towards women’s inequality.
I want to clarify that I declare myself as a feminist in the understanding that I’m not the same as a man, nor do I wish to be. I embrace my femininity and my differences as I believe they are beautiful and complementary to the man’s abilities. I do however believe we have the same rights and we should fight to both get and preserve them.
That being said, I love how the female boudoir photography (well done… of course) is a tribute to the women’s body and her essence.
In a world where the fashion and beauty industry wants to make us feel inadequate it’s about time we embrace who we are in the present moment just as we are and realize once and for all that we are wonderful creatures capable of amazing things with immense power within our selves.
Boudoir photography and sexual freedom
It has never made any sense to me the sinful vision of sex. I just don’t get it and I hope I never will.
I don’t understand why we have to feel ashamed of something so basic to the human nature as sex. Having sexual desires is as natural as being hungry or sleepy, but we don’t hide every time we eat or sleep, do we?
As John Lennon used to say: “We live in a world where we hide to make love while violence is practiced in broad daylight”.
If we come into this wold as the result of that very act, why does it has to be shameful? If it’s capable of producing life, don’t you think that is powerful and beautiful? (I’m talking about sex with mutual consent, of course!)
Now, we as girls specially, need to be the perfect lady, never showing any kind of sexual desire because we won’t be respected and everyone will think we are (sorry for the word) “whores”.
As a result, we don’t have any kind of sexual education, we don’t explore or know our bodies and we live sexually unsatisfied lives, because we don’t know where our pleasure is, we don’t know how to get it and we don’t know how to ask for it.
When I learned about boudoir photography I realized this was a way expressing myself and saying to the world:
- it’s OK to feel sexy
- it’s OK to have desire
- it’s OK to have sexual impulses
- I should be loved and respected for it, not the other way around
My boudoir photography shoot in Paris
So as I was already passionate about photography and working with wonderful couples from all around the globe in Paris (doing weddings, engagements and proposals). I’ve decided to specialise in boudoir photography as a particular branch that allows me to connect with my femininity and all that sensitivity I’ve got within myself.
Now, what kind of boudoir photographer would I be if I don’t put myself in the shoes of my lovely clients? So, I went for it and contacted two of the few people I could ever possibly trust for this task: Paris photographer Ian Homes and Make up artist Onorina Jomir.
Remember, I’m a professional wedding and boudoir photographer myself, I’ve photographed hundreds of people through the years which makes me extremely exigent and picky with my photographs and with a very particular sense of aesthetics.
But I knew with Ian’s impecable sense of style and elegance and Onorina’s beauty skills. I could not be in better hands.
I’ve seen Onorina’s work in many of my clients before, but never on me… And boy! She does magic!
She curled my hair and did my make up better than I could ever imagine. She came with her top of the line products and created something truly spectacular that lasted all day. I remembering thinking that night: Why do I have to wash my face?
Now, regarding Ian’s work, I was certain he would create beautiful and tasteful images while focusing in showing my personality and respecting my particular vision for the shoot.
He made me feel super comfortable, giving me very specific directions on how to pose to make my body look at it’s best.
When I receive the pictures I was very over the moon with the results, I think they reflect my personality in such and elegant and tasteful way I could not be happier.
Ian and Onorina, I could not thank you enough for doing this photo shoot for me. It’s been an experience I will remember and cherish all my life.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
